Get to know me: Questionnaire

By 05:00:00 , ,

If you haven't heard of it before, the organisers of Love-A-Thon are the wonderful Cee (The Novel Hermit), Mel (The Daily Prophecy), Alexa (Alexa Loves Books), and Hazel (Stay Bookish). Go check out their blogs - they're all brilliant!

Hope this questionnaire helps you get to know me a little bit! I'm always awkward when talking about myself but here we go :)

1. What’s your name?
Annika, like that friend of Pippi Longstockings'. Feel free to pronounce it however you'd like :)

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?
A pretty little city in the North of England. It's cold and rainy. But pretty! Always pretty.

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?
I really wanted a place to talk about books with people since my friends IRL seem a bit bored of my monologues. Also, I've been unwell lately, and at the moment I'm just more comfortable socialising online, so it's kind of a compromise: I get to stay home and spend time with people.

4. How did you come up with your blog name?
I was thinking about how much I like to hide my face behind a book. And then I thought, David Mitchell and Patrick Rothfuss kind of hide things in their books - name dropping and little hints of disasters to come. Now, hiding in books makes me think of a lot of things that I could probably write an essay about!

5. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?
I have absolutely no idea! A week ago I would have said fantasy but right now I'm in a fantasy slump, so I'm curious myself to see what I actually end up reading in the next few weeks and months.

6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?
Nothing as of yet... But I know I'll end up rambling about life sooner or later. And grad school. Probably wine (red) and coffee (black).

7. Best blogging experience so far?
First comment! And actually, writing on other people's blogs and getting a nice response.

8. Favorite thing about the blogging community?
(continuing on from #7,) I love it when people are nice to each other. The blogging community seems pretty awesome for that :)

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2016!
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab (the first 150 pages are amazing!)
The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin,
Mr. Splitfoot by Samantha Hunt,
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton (the cover is beautiful!)
And... The third Kingkiller book because...One can hope, right?!

10. Name the 5 books you want to read this 2016 that you didn’t get to in previous years!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern,
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke,
In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente,
number9dream by David Mitchell,
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf.

11. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham. It's just the most beautiful thing ever.
Same could be said for Howl's Moving Castle, except this one's child friendly.

12. Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?
Lila Bard from V.E. Schwab's A Darker Shade of Magic. She likes knives, and she'd rather go to ball dressed as a man, and she wants to be a pirate and she's the most awesome female character ever.

13. Which book boy or girl would be your book boyfriend/girlfriend?
I can't do it. No way. Too many -- except I just saw a post about Outlander, and Jamie was looking particularly divine. And ravishing. And, just, beautiful.

14. Who would you recruit for your apocalypse squad (5 characters max)
Vaelin al Sorna from the Tower Lord (by Anthony Ryan). He'd kill everyone and everything that was dangerous.
Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle because a fire demon could be super useful to have. Especially if it's a zombie apocalypse and we need to burn the zombs.
Oh, and I want a dragon, so Temeraire. If I could only pick one, it would be him.
Also Holly from the Bone Clocks because she kicks ass and I can't just pick men (and dragons and demons who are male)!

15. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?
Drinking wine and knitting, usually simultaneously. Also cooking with friends. And I sing and play the guitar!

16. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?
Used books? Okay, fine. Umm. Ice cream. And shoes. And chocolate. No, I know, bookmarks! That counts?!

17. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?
Genie in a bottle by Christina Aguilera. I have a dance. I can't believe I'm admitting to this.

18. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.
The Kingkiller trilogy. And this may actually be happening so yay!

19. What would your dream library look like?
This question makes me salivate (even though I don't want to literally devour the books). Umm. It would have massive bookshelves, and sort of books on the side of the stairs where the rail should be and no one would ever dog-ear the books and all of them would be beautiful, loved editions, and there would be a little nook for all my bookmarks. Also, a hidden little nook that I could press open, and then all the alcohol (like River Song had in the 2016 Christmas special)! Also coffee and tea somewhere in there, but this is my library and wine comes first.

20. Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?
Patrick Rothfuss. Awesome, nerdy, brilliant. Plus the beard. Although, can we have gin or something instead of tea? Okay, thanks.

So, since I'm blogging from the North - have you ever been to England? Do you live here too? Let me know!
